Brigitte Kieffer has been nominated Director of the Institute

The CNRS, the Inserm and the University of Strasbourg have nominated Brigitte Kieffer Director of the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC) as of June 1st 2012. Brigitte Kieffer, aged 54, Research Director at the Inserm is thus replacing Professor Olivier Pourquié, director of the institute since 2009. Her articles on molecular neurobiology with a focus on the role of endogenous opiates in regulating behavior have impinged tremendously on such aspects of clinical research as pain treatment, drug abuse and various emotional disorders.
“I aim at enhancing the already existing synergy between the extraordinary scientific and technical resources of our institute in order to capitalize on the interdisciplinary aspect of our research and facilitate the emergence of innovative approaches at the leading edge of tomorrow’s biology”, explains Brigitte Kieffer.
Formerly Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Strasbourg, she has joined IGBMC in 2001 and has been awarded the prestigious prize Lounsberry in 2004. An EMBO member since 2009, she has been bestowed in March 2012 the insignia of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.
