Brigitte Kieffer, laureate of L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award

Every year since 1998, the UNESCO and L'Oréal Corporate Foundation rewards 5 women, one per continent, for their contribution to the advancement of Science and career in a field still largely dominated by men. For the 2014 awards, life sciences are being celebrated.
Selected by an independent international committee of eminent members of the scientific community, Brigitte Kieffer is the Laureate for Europe. She is honored for her crucial work in understanding the brain mechanisms involved in pain, mental illness and addiction.
The ceremony will be held March 19, 2014 at the Sorbonne in Paris. It will be presided over by Professor Günter Blobel, 1999 Nobel Prize in Medicine. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, and Jean-Paul Agon, Chairman and CEO of L’Oréal and Chairman of the L’Oréal Foundation, will also be in attendance.
Brigitte Kieffer in her lab by the renowned American photographer Julian Dufort. A portrait exhibits of the five Laureates will be held in the Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.
