IGBMC is one of the leading European centres in biomedical research. It is devoted to the study of higher eukaryotes genome and to the control of genetic expression as well as the functional analysis of genes and proteins. This knowledge is applied to studies of human pathologies.

Engineer Position (“Ingénieur D’Étude”)

Reference : IGBMC / BS

The importance of mRNA decay in regulating and finely tuning gene expression at the post-transcriptional level is now well established. Numerous enzymes, RNA binding factors and protein complexes involved in the various RNA decay pathways have been identified and their functions are being characterized predominantly in yeast and mammalian cells.
The selected engineer will build on the expertise of the lab in studying mRNA decay to investigate the physiological impact of target factors to this process. The project involves the investigation of the role of multisubunit complexes and their interactions with other RNA decay factors and RNA. Impact of disease causing mutations in these factors will also be explored in part through transcriptomic analyses. The project will involve a highly synergistic workflow, based on complementary experimental expertise (biochemistry, molecular biology, in vitro and in vivo assays, transcriptomic…) in collaboration with other teams.

Candidates must hold a Master, DESS or Engineer diploma in biological science and be highly motivated. Strong knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry, with hands-on experience in protein purification (ÄKTA system), is required. Prior experience with cell culture, RNA analysis and/or structural studies would be an asset, yet practical expertise will be gained as part of the research activities.
Ability to work efficiently within a team environment, computer literacy and good communication skills are required. French speaking is NOT a requirement.

About us

The Séraphin team is a leader in the field of eukaryotic RNA decay, RNA processing and protein complex analyses using yeast and mammalian cells as model systems. The team is located in a fully equipped molecular and biochemistry laboratory, and is embedded in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. The candidate will benefit from an excellent work environment, including various state-of–the art research facilities at the IGBMC  (http://www.igbmc.fr/). The project will develop in the framework of ongoing collaborations.

Applications are invited for 2 years with possibilities of extensions.
