Post-doctoral position: RNA modification and decay
The importance of mRNA decay in regulating and finely tuning gene expression at the post-transcriptional level is now well established. Numerous enzymes, RNA binding factors and protein complexes involved in the various RNA decay pathways have been identified and their functions were characterized predominantly in yeast and mammalian cells. Recent experiments have revealed a new layer of regulation, the so-called epitranscriptome, where RNA modifications contribute to mRNA functions, including RNA translation and decay. The selected post-doctoral trainee will build on the expertise of the lab in studying mRNA decay to investigate the physiological impact of newly identified factors to RNA modification, translation and decay. The project involves the investigation of the role of newly identified subunits in a multi-protein complex responsible for the formation of modified mRNA base in mRNAs with the aim of clarifying the mechanisms involved the formation/localization of these marks. Interaction of these factors with the mRNA decay machinery will also be explored to elucidate the role of mRNA modification in transcript stability. Impact on translation will also be monitored. The project will involve a highly synergistic workflow, based on complementary experimental expertise (yeast genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology) in collaboration with a team involved in structural analyses.
Candidates must be highly motivated and have a PhD in biological science. Strong knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry, with hands-on experience, is required. Prior experience with yeast genetic, RNA analyses and/or structural studies would be an asset, yet practical expertise will be gained as part of the research activities.
Ability to work independently within a team environment, computer literacy and good communication skills are required. French speaking is NOT a requirement.
The Séraphin team is a leader in the field of eukaryotic RNA decay, RNA processing and protein complex analyses using yeast and mammalian cells as model systems. The team is located in a fully equipped molecular and biochemistry laboratory, and is embedded in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. The candidate will benefit from an excellent work environment, including various state-of–the art research facilities at the IGBMC. The project will develop in the framework of an ongoing collaboration.
