Exploiting Burkholderia to discover new natural products and biosynthetic pathways

Pr Greg CHALLIS
University of Warwick, Coventry, United Kingdom

Thursday, October 17th 2019 - 11 a.m. - Conference room E1031, CBI
Hosted by Integrated structural Biology, Marat YUSUPOV

Burkholderia is a genus of Gram-negative bacteria that is increasingly being recognised as a promising source of bioactive natural products. In this lecture, I will give an overview of our recent efforts to discover natural products and their associated biosynthetic pathways in Burkholderia species isolated from the rhizosphere and the lungs of cystic fibrosis sufferers. Genetic, biochemical and structural approaches to understanding the molecular mechanisms for assembly of these metabolites will also be discussed.
